What is pickling steel?
Pickling is a sophisticated metal surface purification process, primarily used post metal formation, to achieve pristine surfaces. It involves immersing the metal in an acid bath known as pickling liquor. The choice of acid—often hydrochloric for low alloy steels—depends on the metal's composition. For metals with high resistance to acids, stronger acids or a dual-step pickling process may be employed for optimal cleaning.
How is pickling performed?
Prior to pickling, metals are pre-rinsed to eliminate substantial dirt and debris. The metal is then submerged in a pickling liquor bath, where the acid meticulously clears impurities from the surface. The immersion is time-controlled to avoid excess acid exposure. With precise pickling liquor and controlled timing, surface imperfections are efficiently eradicated with minimal loss of metal. Post-pickling, the metal undergoes a final rinse, often followed by an oiling process to preserve the cleansed surface.
The Application of pickling steel

Additionally, wheel components like rims and spokes, cockpit panels, and the floor of truck carriages benefit from pickling. Other parts, such as anti-collision bumpers and brake sleeves in car interiors, also rely on this process.
2, Machinery industry (outside automobiles) extensively applies pickling in textile and mining machinery, fans, and various general machinery. It enhances components like compressor shells, brackets, water heater liners, and chemical oil drums.
3, Varied uses extend to bicycle parts, assorted welded pipes, electrical cabinets, highway guardrails, supermarket and warehouse shelves, fences, iron ladders, and various intricately shaped stamping parts.
