What is pickling steel?
Pickling is an essential and meticulous metal surface cleansing process, predominantly applied after the metal has been shaped or formed. This effective technique involves immersing the metal into a specialized acidic concoction known as pickling liquor. The specific type of acid employed within the pickling liquor is carefully chosen based on the metal's composition. For most low alloy steels, hydrochloric acid is utilized. However, when dealing with metals exhibiting high resistance to acids, a more potent acid or a sophisticated two-step pickling method may be required to achieve superior cleaning results.
How is pickling performed?
The pickling process begins with an initial rinse where the metal is treated with a solution to efficiently remove any large particulates or debris. Following this preliminary step, the metal is carefully submerged in a pickling liquor bath. Once immersed, the acid meticulously works to eliminate impurities from the surface. It's crucial to monitor the immersion time to prevent any overexposure to the acid, thus preserving the integrity of the metal. With the right pickling liquor and expertly controlled immersion duration, surface irregularities are effectively eliminated with minimal loss of metal. After extraction from the pickling liquor, the metal undergoes a final rinse, and it often proceeds to an oiling process to ensure optimal surface quality and protection.
The Application of pickling steel

The cockpit panel and the undercarriage of various trucks are also significant applications.
