What is pickling steel?
Pickling is an essential metal surface cleansing process used predominantly after metal formation. It involves immersing the metal in an acid solution, known as pickling liquor, which cleanses the metal's surface. The specific acid in the pickling liquor varies based on the metal type, but for most low alloy steels, hydrochloric acid is used. For metals that exhibit high resistance to acids, a more potent acid or a two-step pickling process may be required to achieve optimal cleaning results.
How is pickling performed?
The pickling process begins with rinsing the metal to eliminate large dirt and debris particles. Following this, the metal is submerged into a pickling liquor bath, wherein the acid effectively removes surface impurities. To prevent overexposure, the metal is removed once the designated immersion time is reached. The correct pickling liquor combined with precise timing ensures surface imperfections are efficiently removed with minimal metal loss. Post-pickling, the metal undergoes another rinse and often an oiling process to further enhance its surface finish.
The Application of pickling steel
1,Automotive industry applications include automotive chassis systems, such as girders and auxiliary beams. Components like wheels, including rims and spokes, and cockpit panels are also key uses. The undercarriage of various truck bodies benefits from pickling steel, as do other stamping parts like anti-collision bumpers, brake sleeves, and other intricate car interior parts.
2, Machinery industry (excluding automobiles) features pickling steel in textile machinery, mining machinery, fans, and general machinery components like compressor shells, brackets, and water heater liners. Chemical oil drums are also prominent applications.
3, Additional applications include various bicycle parts, diverse welded pipes, electrical cabinets, highway guardrails, supermarket and warehouse shelves, fences, iron ladders, and intricately shaped stamping parts.
