What is pickling steel?
Pickling is an essential and efficient metal surface cleaning process, typically utilized after a metal has been formed to ensure its purity and quality. This process involves submerging the metal into a specialized acid solution known as pickling liquor, meticulously chosen based on the metal type. For most low alloy steels, hydrochloric acid is the preferred choice. However, for metals exhibiting high resistance to acids, a more robust acid or a two-step method might be necessary to achieve the optimal cleaning outcome.
How is pickling performed?
The pickling process begins with an initial rinse to eliminate substantial dirt and debris. Subsequently, the metal is immersed in a bath of pickling liquor. The acid acts on the metal surface, effectively eradicating impurities. It is critical to adhere to a precise immersion duration to avoid overexposure to the acid, ensuring minimal metal loss while removing surface discontinuities. After acid treatment, the metal undergoes a second rinse, followed by an oiling process to enhance its surface finish and protection.
The Application of pickling steel
