Wear-resistant ceramic-lined steel pipes are composite conduits manufactured through a specialised process. This involves securely bonding high-hardness, highly wear-resistant engineering ceramics—primarily alumina , though silicon carbide and zirconia  are also employed—to the inner surface of standard steel pipes. The result is a composite structure combining a "flexible steel skeleton with a rigid ceramic armour".
