What is pickling steel?
Pickling is an essential cleaning process for metal surfaces, particularly effective after metal formation. It involves immersing the metal in a specialized acid solution known as pickling liquor. The specific type of acid varies depending on the metal; for most low alloy steels, hydrochloric acid is utilized. For metals that exhibit high resistance to acids, a stronger acid or a dual-step pickling process may be necessary to achieve optimal surface cleanliness.
How is pickling performed?
The pickling process begins with an initial rinse to remove gross contaminants like dirt and debris. Subsequently, the metal is submerged into a pickling liquor bath, where the acid actively eliminates surface impurities. Precise control of immersion time ensures effective cleaning without excessive acid exposure. Ideally, this method removes surface imperfections with minimal loss of the metal substrate. Post-pickling, the metal undergoes a final rinse and often an oiling procedure, enhancing its protection and longevity.
The Application of pickling steel
1,Automotive industry applications include: automotive chassis systems such as girders and auxiliary beams; wheels like rims and spokes; cockpit panels; and the undercarriage of various trucks. Other stamped components include anti-collision bumpers, brake sleeves, and various small car interior parts.
2, Machinery industry (excluding automobiles) applications encompass textile machinery, mining equipment, fans, and general machinery components. These include compressor shells, brackets, water heater liners, and chemical oil drums.
3, Other applications cover bicycle parts, various welded pipes, electrical cabinets, highway guardrails, supermarket and warehouse shelves, fences, iron ladders, and a range of stamped parts in assorted shapes.
