Pickling is a transformative metal surface cleaning operation, vital after metal formation. This method involves immersing metal into an acid solution called pickling liquor. For metals that exhibit strong acid resistance, a more potent acid or a dual-step pickling approach might be necessary to reach optimal cleanliness.
The Steps Involved in Pickling
Prior to the pickling process, metals are typically rinsed to eliminate substantial dirt and debris. Post this rinse, the metal is submerged into a pickling liquor bath, where the acid diligently clears surface impurities. At the conclusion of a pre-determined immersion period, the metal is extracted to avoid excessive acid exposure, ensuring minimal metal loss while effectively removing surface inconsistencies. After the acid bath, another rinse follows, often succeeded by a process known as oiling, further enhancing the metal's surface.
