What is pickling steel?
Pickling is an essential metal surface cleaning process predominantly utilized after a metal has been formed. This process involves the meticulous cleaning of a metal surface by immersing it in an acid solution known as pickling liquor. The choice of acid, typically hydrochloric acid for low alloy steels, varies depending on the metal being treated. For metals that exhibit high resistance to acids, stronger acids or a comprehensive two-step pickling method might be employed to achieve impeccable cleaning results.
How is pickling performed?
The pickling process begins with an initial rinse to eradicate larger dirt and debris particles from the metal. Subsequently, the metal is submerged in a pickling liquor bath where the acid diligently removes impurities from the surface. The immersion is precisely timed to prevent overexposure, ensuring just the right amount of cleaning with minimal metal loss while preserving the metal's integrity. After the desired cleaning effect is accomplished, the metal is extracted from the bath and rinsed once again. Often, an oiling process follows to further enhance the metal's surface finish.
The Application of pickling steel

The wheels, comprising rims and spokes, and components like cockpit panels are also crafted from pickling steel. Carriages, particularly the undersides of various truck carriages, utilize this material, along with other stamped parts such as anti-collision bumpers, brake sleeves, and numerous small interior car components.
2, Machinery industry (excluding automotive applications) leverages pickling steel in various domains such as textile machinery, mining equipment, and general machinery. It is employed in creating robust compressor shells, brackets, water heater liners, and chemical oil drums, highlighting its versatile application.
