What is pickling steel?
Pickling is a meticulous and essential metal surface cleaning process, predominantly applied post metal formation. This sophisticated procedure involves immersing the metal into a specialized acidic solution, the revered pickling liquor, which varies depending on the type of metal. For most low alloy steels, hydrochloric acid is the acid of choice. For metals with higher resistance to acids, a more potent acid or a dual-step pickling process might be necessary to achieve immaculate cleaning results.
How is pickling performed?
The pickling process begins with an initial rinse to eliminate large dirt particles. Next, the metal is submerged into a bath of pickling liquor, where the acid diligently removes surface impurities. Careful timing is crucial; once the optimal immersion period is achieved, the metal is promptly removed to avert overexposure to the acid. This ensures the removal of surface discontinuities with minimal metal loss. Post-pickling, the metal undergoes another rinse and is subsequently treated with a process called oiling for enhanced protection.

2, Machinery industry (excluding automobiles) embraces textile machinery, mining machinery, fans, and diverse general machinery components. Key elements include compressor shells, brackets, water heater liners, and essential chemical oil drums.
3, Beyond these, pickling steel finds versatile applications in bicycle parts, various welded pipes, electrical cabinets, highway guardrails, supermarket shelves, warehouse racks, fences, iron ladders, and stamping parts of an array of shapes.
