What is pickling steel?
Pickling is an essential and highly effective metal surface cleaning process predominantly utilized post metal formation. This transformative process involves immersing the metal into an acid-based solution known as pickling liquor. The composition of this pickling liquor varies depending on the type of metal undergoing treatment. For most low alloy steels, hydrochloric acid is employed. However, for metals with high acid resistance, more potent acids or a dual-step pickling method may be required to achieve superior cleaning results.
How is pickling performed?
The pickling process begins with a preliminary rinse to remove significant dirt and debris particles from the metal. Following this, the metal is submerged in a pickling liquor bath where the acid diligently works to strip away impurities from its surface. Carefully monitored immersion periods prevent excessive exposure to the acid. With the right combination of pickling liquor and optimal immersion duration, surface imperfections are efficiently eradicated with negligible metal loss. Post-pickling, the metal undergoes a final rinse and is frequently subjected to an oiling process to enhance protection and finish.
The Application of pickling steel
1,Automotive industry applications include: automotive chassis systems such as girders and auxiliary beams, wheels including rims and spokes, cockpit panels, and carriage components like the undersides of various truck carriages. Additionally, it encompasses other stamped components like anti-collision bumpers, brake sleeves, and various small interior car parts.
2, Machinery industry (excluding automobiles) applications span across textile machinery, mining machinery, fans, and general machinery. It includes components like compressor shells, brackets, water heater liners, and chemical oil drums.
3, In other industries, pickling steel is utilized in bicycle parts, various welded pipes, electrical cabinets, highway guardrails, supermarket and warehouse shelves, fences, iron ladders, and diverse stamped parts.
