What is pickling steel?
Pickling is a state-of-the-art metal surface purification process widely implemented post-metal formation. It rejuvenates the metal's surface by immersing it in a specialized acidic solution known as pickling liquor. This solution varies based on the metal type, with hydrochloric acid commonly used for low alloy steels. For metals with robust acid resistance, a more potent acid or a dual-step pickling approach may be necessary to achieve pristine cleanliness.
How is pickling performed?
The pickling process begins with a thorough rinse to eliminate large dirt particles. The metal then plunges into a pickling liquor bath, where the acid meticulously strips impurities from its surface. Precise timing is crucial; the metal is extracted once the optimal immersion duration is reached, ensuring no excess acid exposure. The correct pickling liquor and immersion period ensure surface imperfections are expertly removed while preserving the metal's integrity. Post-pickling, metals undergo a final rinse followed by oiling to enhance surface quality.
