What is pickling steel?
Pickling is an essential metal surface purification process, predominantly employed after metal formation. This meticulous technique involves immersing the metal in a specialized acid solution called pickling liquor. The choice of acid is tailored to the metal type; for low alloy steels, hydrochloric acid is typically used. However, for metals with robust acid resistance, a more potent acid or a dual-step pickling procedure may be necessary to achieve exceptional cleanliness and surface integrity.
How is pickling performed?
Before the pickling process begins, the metal undergoes a thorough rinsing to eliminate substantial dirt and debris. It is then submerged in a pickling liquor bath. During this immersion, the acid effectively eradicates impurities from the metal's surface. To prevent excessive acid exposure, the metal is removed once the prescribed immersion duration is reached. Optimal pickling involves selecting the appropriate pickling liquor and precise immersion timing, ensuring surface imperfections are removed with minimal metal loss. Afterward, the metal is rinsed again, followed by an oiling procedure to protect the freshly cleaned surface.
The Application of pickling steel

Key components like compressor shells, brackets, and water heater liners benefit from pickling steel.
