What is pickling steel?
Pickling is an advanced, essential process of metal surface cleaning that is predominantly utilized after metals have been formed. This meticulous process involves submerging the metal into a specialized acid solution, known as pickling liquor. The composition of this solution varies depending on the metal type; however, hydrochloric acid is predominantly used for most low alloy steels. For metals that exhibit significant resistance to acids, a more potent acid or a sophisticated two-step pickling method might be employed to achieve superior cleaning results.
How is pickling performed?
The pickling process begins with a thorough rinse of the metal to eliminate large particles of dirt and debris. Subsequently, the metal is immersed in a bath of pickling liquor, where the acid meticulously cleanses the surface, removing impurities. This immersion is carefully timed to prevent excessive acid exposure. With the selection of appropriate pickling liquor and precise timing, surface discontinuities are effectively eliminated, ensuring minimal metal loss. After this, the metal is once again rinsed and often undergoes an essential oiling process to enhance surface protection.
The Application of pickling steel
1,Automotive industry applications include pivotal components like the automotive chassis system with girders and auxiliary beams, wheels such as rims and spokes, cockpit panels, and the carriage floor of various trucks. Additionally, it encompasses other critical stamping parts, such as anti-collision bumpers, brake sleeves, and other small interior car parts.
2, Machinery industry (excluding automobiles) extensively uses pickling steel for textile machinery, mining machinery, fans, and a range of general machinery. It is also vital for manufacturing compressor shells, brackets, water heater liners, and chemical oil drums.
