Defining Pickling Steel
Pickling is a sophisticated metal surface cleaning technique, predominantly applied post-metal formation. This process meticulously cleanses the metal surface by immersing it into a specialized acid bath known as pickling liquor. The composition of this liquor varies with the type of metal; for instance, common low alloy steels utilize hydrochloric acid. For metals exhibiting high resistance to acids, a potent acid or an innovative two-step pickling method may be necessary to achieve pristine cleanliness.
Performing the Pickling Process
Initially, metals are meticulously rinsed to clear away substantial dirt and debris. Subsequently, these metals are submerged in the pickling liquor bath, where the acid diligently purges surface impurities. After a predetermined immersion duration, metals are extracted to avert excessive acid exposure. With the right choice of pickling liquor and precise immersion timing, surface irregularities are resolved with minimal metal degradation. Post-immersion, metals undergo another rinse followed by a protective oiling process.
