What is pickling steel?
Pickling is an essential metal surface cleaning process, predominantly utilized post-metal formation. It involves immersing the metal into an acid solution called pickling liquor, which effectively cleans the surface. The type of acid used in pickling liquor varies according to the metal being processed. For most low alloy steels, hydrochloric acid is the preferred choice. However, for metals that exhibit high resistance to acids, either a stronger acid or a two-step pickling method is employed to achieve the optimal cleaning results.
How is pickling performed?
Before the pickling process begins, the metal undergoes an initial rinse to eliminate large particles of dirt and debris. The metal is then submerged in a bath filled with pickling liquor, where the acid works diligently to cleanse the surface. Upon reaching the predetermined immersion time, the metal is carefully extracted to prevent overexposure to the acid. When the appropriate pickling liquor and precise immersion time are utilized, surface impurities are effectively removed while minimizing metal loss. Post-pickling, the metal is rinsed again and typically undergoes an oiling process to ensure optimal protection.
The Application of pickling steel
1,Automotive industry applications include the automotive chassis system, comprising girders, auxiliary beams, and more. It's used for wheels, like rims and spokes, cockpit panels, and is fundamental in the carriage, notably the floor of various truck carriages. Additionally, pickling steel is used for other stamped parts, such as anti-collision bumpers, brake sleeves, and other minor components within car interiors.
2, Machinery industry (excluding automobiles) encompasses sectors like textile machinery, mining machinery, fans, and various types of general machinery. It is instrumental for components like compressor shells, brackets, water heater liners, and chemical oil drums.
3, pickling steel finds use in other applications, including bicycle parts, diverse welded pipes, electrical cabinets, highway guardrails, supermarket and warehouse shelves, fences, iron ladders, and various stamped parts of different shapes.
