What is pickling steel?
Pickling is an essential metal surface cleaning process, predominantly utilized after metal formation, to ensure pristine quality and longevity. This process involves immersing metal into an acid solution, known as pickling liquor, which varies depending on the metal type. Typically, for low alloy steels, hydrochloric acid is employed. However, for metals with heightened acid resistance, a more potent acid or a dual-step pickling method may be necessary to achieve optimal cleansing.
How is pickling performed?
The pickling process begins with a thorough rinse to eliminate substantial dirt and debris from the metal. Following this, the metal is submerged into a specially prepared pickling liquor bath. The acid effectively purges impurities from the metal's surface during immersion. It's crucial to adhere to a specific time limit to prevent excessive acid exposure. When executed correctly, the surface inconsistencies are meticulously removed with minimal metal degradation. Post-pickling, the metal undergoes another rinse and often proceeds through an oiling process for added protection.
The Application of pickling steel
1,Automotive industry applications are extensive: automotive chassis systems like girders and auxiliary beams; wheels, including rims and spokes; cockpit panels; and the undersides of various truck carriages. Additional applications include anti-collision bumpers, brake sleeves, and interior car components.
2, Machinery industry (non-automotive) covers a wide range: textile machinery, mining equipment, fans, and general machinery components. This includes compressor shells, brackets, water heater liners, and chemical oil drums.
3, In addition, pickling steel serves in the manufacturing of bicycle parts, numerous welded pipes, electrical cabinets, highway guardrails, supermarket and warehouse shelves, fences, iron ladders, and various shaped stamping parts.
