What is pickling steel?
Pickling is a remarkable metal surface cleaning process, paramount in the post-forming stage of metal treatment. It involves an intricate cleaning technique, where the metal is immersed in an acid solution, called pickling liquor, to cleanse its surface. The choice of acid is meticulously tailored to the type of metal being treated. For instance, low alloy steels are most commonly treated with hydrochloric acid. However, when dealing with metals that boast high resistance to conventional acids, more potent acids or a sophisticated two-step pickling method may be employed to achieve the pristine surface finish desired.
How is pickling performed?
The meticulous pickling process commences with a preliminary rinse to purge the metal of any significant debris. This is followed by the metal's immersion into a bath of pickling liquor. The acid within the bath diligently eradicates surface impurities. Careful attention is given to the duration of immersion to avert excessive exposure to the acid, ensuring optimal removal of surface discontinuities with minimal metal erosion. After achieving the desired cleanliness, a post-pickling rinse is conducted. The process often culminates in an oiling phase, providing an additional layer of surface protection.
The Application of pickling steel
