What is pickling steel?
Pickling is an exceptional and vital metal surface cleaning process, predominantly employed once a metal is expertly formed. This superior process involves immersing the metal in a transformative acid solution known as pickling liquor. The precise acid formulation within the pickling liquor is tailored to the specific type of metal, with hydrochloric acid being the preferred choice for most low alloy steels. How is pickling performed?
To embark on the pickling process, the metal begins an initial thorough rinse to eliminate substantial particles of dirt and debris. It is then gracefully submerged into a pickling liquor bath where the acid diligently eradicates surface impurities. After a meticulously predetermined immersion period, the metal is extracted to avert any risk of overexposure to the acid. By using the ideal pickling liquor and adhering to the accurate immersion duration, impurities are efficiently expunged with minimal metal loss. Following extraction, the metal undergoes a final rinse and often proceeds to a sophisticated oiling process to ensure long-lasting surface protection.
