What is pickling steel?
Pickling is an essential metal surface cleaning process, predominantly employed after metal forming. By immersing metal in an acid solution, known as pickling liquor, pickling effectively cleanses the surface. The type of acid varies based on the metal; however, hydrochloric acid is commonly used for low alloy steels. For metals with high acid resistance, stronger acids or a dual-step pickling method might be essential to attain the ideal cleaning effect.
How is pickling performed?
Initially, before pickling, metals undergo a rinsing process to eliminate large dirt and debris particles. Post-rinsing, the metals are submerged in a pickling liquor bath, where the acid efficiently removes surface impurities. To avoid overexposure, the metal is extracted once it reaches the predetermined immersion time. With the right pickling liquor and precise immersion time, surface irregularities are eradicated with minimal metal loss. Afterward, metals are rinsed again, typically followed by an oiling process that further enhances surface protection.
The Application of pickling steel
1,Automotive industry: This process finds extensive applications in automotive chassis systems, including girders and auxiliary beams, as well as wheels, rims, spokes, and cockpit panels. It’s crucial for the bottom structures of various truck carriages and other stamping parts such as anti-collision bumpers, brake sleeves, and other small interior components.
2, Machinery industry (excluding automobiles): The use of pickling steel is significant in manufacturing textile machinery, mining machinery, fans, and general machinery components like compressor shells, brackets, and water heater liners. It is also vital for chemical oil drums.
3, It also serves a variety of other purposes, including in bicycle parts, various welded pipes, electrical cabinets, highway guardrails, supermarket and warehouse shelves, fences, iron ladders, and diverse stamping parts.
